Family run business, Gretna Green Ltd, launches a dedicated Chinese website in partnership with Unineed Group Ltd. This is the latest step in the development of Gretna Green Ltd’s global e-commerce business, furthering their international presence.

As the most visited privately owned visitor attraction in Scotland, Gretna Green welcomes over 860k people each year. The business believes it is vitally important to grow its online presence globally to ensure a seamless proposition pre, during and post visit, offering customers a full-service online experience. This new site is the latest addition to an already successful ecommerce business currently available in more than 50 countries worldwide.

This vision is mirrored by Gretna Green Ltd’s Chinese partner, Unineed Group Ltd. Unineed Group Ltd provides vendors with an end-to-end ecommerce platform built to address the Chinese market, covering all elements required including localised web development and hosting, payment gateways, marketing, distribution, translation and customer service.

Unineed Group’s platform allows for Gretna Green Ltd to export Scottish products to the Chinese ecommerce market. Through Unineed Group’s service, www.GretnaGreen.cn will communicate its message effectively to a Chinese audience, who will be able to engage with the business while in China, thus exposing this famous Scottish brand to a new market.

Statistics show that the Chinese online retail market is the largest ecommerce market in the world, expected to be worth $1tn by 2020 with more than half of all digital buyers expected to be shopping from stores based abroad by the end of next year. Unineed Group was created in response to this rapidly expanding Chinese ecommerce market, and the growing demand for western products via cross-border sales.

Gretna Green Ltd.’s Chinese facing website has been designed to specifically meet the needs of the growing numbers of our Chinese consumers and will focus on communicating the history and heritage of the business along with offering a unique range of Scottish products which can be purchased and shipped internationally.

Isabel Rhodes, Commercial Director of Gretna Green Ltd says:

Launching our Chinese facing website is the latest step in implementing our company growth strategy and furthering the work carried out at our visitor attraction over the last 12 months. Our Chinese customer base on site is fantastic and we want to build a digital presence within this market to offer and enhance the online experience of all our Chinese customers.”

Alasdair Houston, Chairman of Gretna Green Ltd says:

“We are taking the unique history and heritage of Gretna Green to our Chinese customers in China. Combining this with an excellent product offer that celebrates this heritage including high quality Gretna Green own-brand and other Scottish merchandise, the introduction of this website to our existing international ecommerce site will continue the process of internationalising Brand Gretna Green, one of the best recognised in Scotland.

Partnering with Unineed Group was an easy decision to make based on the expertise and enthusiasm of Unineed’s Managing Director, Lowell Wang who shares our passion and vision for the brand. I congratulate Lowell and his team at Unineed and also Isabel Rhodes, Commercial Director at Gretna Green Ltd and those many other colleagues in the team for making this happen.”

Lowell Wang, Managing Director of Unineed Group Ltd says of the partnership:

We are very excited to be working with such a well-known and respected brand. Gretna Green have an incredible history and story to tell, which is something that Chinese consumers really reach for when making purchasing decisions.

Gretna Green offer a range of products that really capture the imagination of the Chinese consumer. This allows us to build a bridge between cultures with the help of technology and specialist services such as logistics.

Many Western brands find it difficult to adapt their offering for the Chinese market, which means they are missing out on the world’s largest ecommerce market. Gretna Green, on the other hand, have embraced the opportunity and we have worked together to offer a piece of Scottish culture to mainland China”
